Subspace / Continuum

• What is Subspace / Continuum?
Subspace or Continuum are both online games. These online games are free to download from download.com and continuum devoted sites like beginners.subspace.net aswell. The difference between subspace and continuum is that continuum is the new client. Subspace is an older version, although it still works on some servers.

Continuum (and Subspace) is an client which can login into a server. As soon as you are in such a server you can play Continuum! 17th Parallel is such a server. Please see below for more information about 17th Parallel.

Visually, the game is a top-down view space shooter. The expansive high-resolution playing field is made up of various obstacles, power-ups and safe zones. Players maneuver through space collecting power-ups that will increase their ship's fire power, armament, maneuverability and special weapons. With hundreds of people vying for the same power-ups and flags, players must be prepared to defend themselves constantly. To help in battle, players can form teams or have themselves assigned to one through the computer. In true team fashion, each player benefits when they or another teammate absorbs a power-up, which can help arm a weak beginner's ship rapidly. Points are scored for collecting power-ups and destroying opponents.

To maximize the gaming experience, SubSpace is divided into many different game types called "zones." Each zone has unique team or player goals and levels of difficulty that accommodate everyone from beginners to expert pilots. All zones contain arenas, accommodating hundreds of people playing at the same time. Through a unique on-screen chat system, players can communicate in real-time with each other. Individuals can address everyone in the arena, everyone on their team or specific individuals. This chat system allows teammates to plot strategies, build attack plans and taunt other teams.

• What is 17th Parallel?
As already spoken of above 17th Parallel is a zone, a server for Subspace / Continuum. 17th Parallel has its own public map, the map you enter when you enter the zone.

Primarily created as a team-based basing game, 17th Parallel has evolved into a multi-faceted zone offering over alot Flagging, Racing, Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, and other specialty sub-arenas. Many of these sub-arenas carry custom shipsets and arena designs downloadable in-game. In addition, 17th Parallel has one of the most competitive and team based games available, hosted automatically 24 hours a day in a separate arena called Rumble.
Each ship holds a specially designed set of functions, created to promote a balanced and skill oriented balling match.

These sub arenas include; Deathmatch style dueling, point-based games, flag-based games, ship specific maps (like Javs or sharks), Racing maps with custom racecar ship designs, and Ball games like Hockey or Powerball. Trench Wars developers have also utilized the versatility of Subspace/Continuum, to create some of the most popular sub-games to date! Games like Hell where lost souls have only a short time to make it to the safety and Mothership where you most protect your big, but vurnerable motherhsip!

17th Parallel also has very competitive squad based Leagues, where squads can compete eachother in a certain game type. Squads compete each weekend during a regular season in order to make their way to the playoffs, for a chance at winning the league!

• What is the objective in 17th Parallel?
Your primary objective in 17th Parallel is to help your team to score with the ball in the opponent’s goal, positioned left/right on the map. The opponent tries to stop you from scoring in their goal.

Another objective is trying to win the King Of The Hill award. You can get this award by killing an opponent in the time that is displayed on the top left, below the score board. When you kill an opponent in this time, the time resets to the start and starts the count down again. When you don’t kill an opponent in the time, then you are not in the run anymore for the King Of The Hill award.
However, if you are the last one still in the run for the King Of The Hill you get the award! You will get a number of points added up your score, calculated from the number of players that are playing.

The third objective is to get the flags positioned at the top of the map. These flags will give you and your team points after some time. Even when you or your team kill opponents you get extra points if you got flags captured! The more flags you got captured, the more points you and your team will receive.
